Mad Men

There was a time and a place when copywriters truly were king. New York in the forties and fifties. When consumers read avidly, and The Saturday Evening Post, with its full page advertisements crowded with sales copy, was devoured by every member of every household.

And then the revolution came and swept it all away. Photography, combined headline/visual selling messages and TV swept direct selling copy out of the mainstream of advertising and into the territory that became known in the UK as 'below the line'.

The moment when the revolution came is captured quite beautifully in Mad Men, now being screened on BBC 4 (10pm Sundays). Get into it now...and discover the history of what you do.

All on a page

Lots of people call me, after seeing my website, to talk over projects.

And often, at the end of our conversation, they will tell me that they now have to go and get their boss or colleague's approval to hire me.

But what are they going to use to persuade their boss that I'd be a good bet to help them?

The person with whom I've been speaking has seen my site: their boss hasn't.

To this end, I've summarised all of the key information I'd like the boss to see into a single page A4 .pdf, and put it on my site as a download, clearly linked on the homepage.
